First Christian Church grew out of a home Bible study group that saw an area of Christian service available in Greensville County and the City Of Emporia. The first Sunday service was held on June 27, 1976, in the chapel of Echols Funeral Home.

Several services were held at various buildings in the area; the Greensville Ruritan building and the Avis B Adams Nursing Home. In May of 1977, the Seventh Day Adventist Church building, that used to set on what is now the Sadler's Truck Stop lot, was aquired and renovated.

In 1987, construction began on our current building and it was finished in 1988. First Christian Church now sets on about nine acres of land in Greensville County on Ruritan Road, across the street from the Greensville Ruritan Club. The main building where the sanctuary is located, also has classrooms, a nursery, a kitchen and a dining area. On the grounds, we have a children's playground, a large screened in, pavillion, and a cemetery. The main building has parking lots in the front and in the rear.

Our Sanctuary

We base our Christian beliefs on the Word of God, the Holy Bible. We believe that the Bible is the divine inspiration of God, and we believe in adhering to its principals. We believe that God is the sole Creator of the universe and everything in it. We believe that the son of God is Jesus Christ and that Jesus was born of a virgin, walked this earth as a man, was crucified for our sins, arose from the dead, and ascended into Heaven where he now prepares a place for those who follow Him. We believe that Jesus will return triumphantly to earth. We believe that this life is only the beginning of eternal life which starts after our earthly death.

We believe that there is a Heaven and a hell; that hell is dominated by Satan and is a place of unimaginable pain and suffering, while Heaven is ruled by God and his son Jesus Christ, and is more beautiful and peaceful that our minds allow us to comprehend.

We believe that the road to salvation, and Heaven, is shown in the Bible, and that it is not complicated. Any person that recognizes that they are a sinner, asks God to forgive their sins, asks Jesus to come live in their heart, and continues to follow in Jesus' footsteps, including baptism, can be assured of one day being welcomed into Heaven as one of Jesus' flock. We believe that Christians receive the Holy Spirit upon asking Jesus into their heart and that the Holy Spirit is the constant companion of a true believer. Though we are not promised that our earthly life will be easy, we are assured that we will never have to go it alone.  Jesus leads the way if we let him.

Like the early Christians, we meet once a week to worship God in song and words. We also have a communion service every week; this is in remembrance of what Jesus did for us all.  His body was broken and his blood was spilled for our sins. Our worship service is a blend of traditional hymns, as well as, some of the newer Christian music. Our services are presented using songs and images generated by a computer controlled sound and video system. We also include special music from members, and guests, as offered.  Our worship of God includes a sermon from the Bible usually presented by our minister, Jack Warner.

The Sunday Worship service officially begins at 11:00 A.M., but we usually have Christian fellowship from about 10:30 A.M. until the service starts promptly at eleven. This is a time of "catching up" with our fellow Christians and seeking the fellowship that we so need from our Christian family. We encourage visitors to join us for this informal, friendly, and loving, "get together".

We strive to make our visitors feel comfortable, safe, and loved when they join us in worshiping our Heavenly Father, in His house of worship, our church.

Our goal is to represent Christ and shine His light into a world that has become increasingly darkened by sin and corruption. Our members strive to be, "Heroes for Christ", during any opportunity provided them by God.  Simply put:

" We try to act like Jesus would want us to in any given situation "

We believe that God's salvation is available to ALL people and, therefore, encourage people of all races to come and join us in ," Making a joyful noise unto the Lord".
